Love your recs! And I’m from Western MA too! Also spent many summers on Cape Cod. Even lived there as a child and have family there still…so Sandwich is an all-time fave!

I'm not really sure what's going on with your readers because apparently no one has told Dunkin he's perfect yet?!?!?! Well, I have not forgotten him. You're perfect, Dunkin!!!

I think I'm actually gonna do a full Ocean Vuong catalog read this summer before I do Gladness!!! In order. I haven't actually read Time is a Mother yet!! So 2 rereads and 2 new reads! It might take me a little while but rest assured I will not skimp with the texting.

omg thank you for never forgetting Dunkin!!

oh I am so thrilled you are going to do a full Ocean backlist read. You will not be sorry! Take all the time you need, I'm just happy to be along for the ride. He's been talking a lot about earnestness in recent interviews and you know who that makes me think of!!!

I'm loving the mix of backlist and new releases! And mostly I love that you said there's literally no chance you'll read them all but you're going to try. That's the best we can do! Happy reading!

You’ll have to repay me the Emperor of Gladness DMs and let me know your thoughts on Audition! I don’t even know what I’m most excited to read this summer, the TBR is towering.

The fiction I'm most excited about reading this summer is Kevin Wilson's new book, Run for the Hills. Wilson is one of the most ridiculously exciting and unpredictable and enjoyable writers I've encountered in the past decade (and full credit for the introduction goes to my friend Hurley Winkler, who writes the amazing Lonely Victories substack about her writing practice.)

And there's tons of poetry, both new and backlist, that I'm excited about, but I'm just excited about poetry in general.

Ooh, excellent picks here. I have Intimacies on my shelf and can’t wait to read it. The Eve Ewing and Melissa Febos are both calling to me, too. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on any/all of these that you end up getting to this summer!

I would definitely recommend The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff- it was my favorite book of the year when it came out (2023?).

I prefer Intimacies over Kitamura's other 2 recent books.

I also loved Human Acts by Han Kang, I would recommend that next.

Loved Original Sins, highly recommend the audio.

I loved Big Swiss, hilarious and one of the very very few sex scenes I was okay reading. (definitely not a romance reader)

what a wonderful list!!

Oh I LOVED The Vaster Wilds. It's actually the only Groff I've read which I'm quite embarrassed about and I am determined to fix. I gotta read more Florida literature! So good to know about the Original Sins audio - I may well go that route. I love your voracious reading!!! Thank you so much for reading my list.

I get that. Sometimes I don't finish authors' backlists so I have something in the future to read from them. I don't want the fun to end haha.

Thank you for highlighting backlist books! I am here for the love shown to Bryan Washington's Family Meal. It's an incredible work of fiction that I think about all the time. I have been a fan of Washington's since Lot, his short stories collection, and I'm eager to read his upcoming new release. The Vegetarian and Florida are also on my TBR.
